gundam over-flag progress

i've finally gotten around to starting my flag model.

i'm not going with the standard paint scheme (dark cool grey) since i already have a few shades of this green to work with, and finding a place to buy tamiya paint here has been impossible!

so here's the progress after day one. the paint's still super rough. i had some issues with the parts...(tough figuring out what's goin on with japanese instructions) it seems as though it wanted me to defy physics to get the inner parts of the torso to articulate... i ended up having to do some hacking and slashing to get it working...

i've primed all the parts normally, but i'm doing the painting with a brush, like i've done in the past with warhammer models. (not sure how that'll turn out...we'll see)

here's the torso and head so far

finalish direction

i'm trying to hone in on a final direction.

i took some of the themes of the previous ones and played with the proportions a bit.

i'm goin with in-wheel motors

also, this one can turn....happy?

i'm done with my internship (won't be able to post anything for a while) but i'll be working on more postable stuff. I'll probably throw some sketchbook pages up tomorrow.

sketchbook pages

okey dokey...

so here's a few pages of some ideation style exploration.

this is a 6x9 sketchbook, so these aren't that big.

this first style is pretty much how i sketch now but looser and with a different pen...

this style is way different from what i do now. more of a continuous line thing.

a 30 second summary of life as a fat cat.

the one thing i'm sure i like about this style is that it's very quick. so i'm gonna feel this out a bit, fill a few sketchbooks before classes, and see how i like it. i'm sure that this style is one that needs to be practiced a shitload, so that's what i'm gonna do.

ok...crit away!

more to come!

h'ok, so...

after a bit of time with prismacolor i'm not happy with the results,

so i turned to a uniball pen and a sketchbook, and have finally discovered something a lot of you have had figured out for a while.

soooo i'm trying a more automotive-thumbnail-style quick ideation sketch.

i'll be postin sketchbook pages on monday...

on an unrelated note, go see (500) days of summer, it's amazing.
